Swimming Pool Vastu: Review the Whole Footprint Before Excavation

If you are planning a swimming pool, its position deserves a review while the excavation is still a line on a drawing. Begin with the whole installation: the basin, surrounding deck, access, equipment and relationship to the house.

A pool occupies more than the blue rectangle on a landscape plan. That is the central idea behind a useful swimming-pool Vastu discussion. A direction can help describe its location; it cannot, by itself, settle the entire design.

For an existing pool, the same approach helps turn a broad worry about its direction into specific questions that can be investigated.

A recreational pool, a borewell and an overhead tank have different purposes and physical arrangements. Grouping them under “water” loses information that matters to the property review.

Even within one pool installation, several features need separate entries on the plan. Keep their boundaries visible rather than reducing them to one point.

These are records for coordinated discussion. Pool depth, excavation, structure and service design need the relevant technical professionals; a Vastu grid does not specify their engineering.

What does the classical reference actually describe?

In Acharya’s translation of Mānasāra, 40.100, a dug tank is assigned to the north-west or south-west within a palace arrangement. The installation and its setting are part of the instruction.

That passage is useful because it shows why context deserves attention. It describes an excavated tank in a royal complex; applying it directly to a modern family swimming pool would be a further interpretation. It does not provide a ready-made location table for every contemporary property.

The pool review below is a contemporary application of my MVDE assessment approach. No pool-specific directional rule was established from the Foundation material reviewed for this guide. I will explain the framework used for a recommendation rather than present that application as an independently verified ancient pool rule.

Make the recommendation traceable to the property

My Foundation method records location, physical condition, actual use, interpretive lens, evidence and the next appropriate step. For a planned pool, this begins with the current proposed drawings and the decisions still open to change.

First, establish the plan’s orientation and the boundary being assessed. A plot and the house within it have different outlines. If a basin spans mapped sectors, record that overlap and any uncertainty. The 16-zone guide explains the directional vocabulary.

Next, record the installation’s purpose and use. A family recreation area, a regularly used exercise pool and a seldom-used ornamental feature create different briefs. Identify which details are observed, which are proposed and which remain unknown.

Then explain the interpretation. A documented position is a plan finding. An association assigned to that position belongs to the stated Vastu framework. A homeowner’s experience is a report to understand; it does not establish that the pool caused a health, financial or relationship problem.

The recommendation should make the decision clearer: retain the proposal, investigate a detail or compare a feasible alternative with the design team.

Compare complete options before choosing a location

A family is considering two pool layouts. Both drawings describe the pool as being on the eastern side of the property. Option A shows the basin and deck, but leaves the equipment space and access route unresolved. Option B includes those functions and their relationship to the house.

The label “east” does not make the options equivalent. The first needs a fuller brief before assessment; the second provides more of the information needed to compare use, placement and practical constraints.

A coordinated review could also identify a third arrangement. The value lies in understanding the whole proposal while changes are still easier to discuss. This example illustrates a decision process, not a claim that either eastern layout is inherently suitable.

Prepare one clear brief for the design team

Bring the current site and house drawings, the pool proposal and your intended use. Note whether north has been checked, which elements are fixed and when the design needs to be agreed.

Ask the pool designer to address barriers, access and drain-suction safety, and plan for attentive supervision when children are near the water. If the pool already exists, bring the current arrangement and the specific concern. Record visible conditions and previous alterations without climbing into service spaces or attempting technical work. An existing installation needs a diagnosis before a relocation or remedy is considered.

Common swimming-pool Vastu questions

Is north-east automatically the best pool position?

This guide does not establish a universal direction ranking. A useful recommendation needs the full plan, the installation’s scope and an explicit interpretation. The classical passage discussed above has a specific palace context.

Can a rooftop pool be assessed like a garden pool?

Its level and supporting structure change the brief. Record them clearly and involve the structural and pool-design professionals. A directional assessment cannot establish whether a roof can support a proposed installation.

Should I move an existing pool after reading a direction chart?

Start with a property review. A generic chart does not establish a defect, its consequences or a proportionate response. Any proposal for physical changes needs assessment of the actual installation.
